Job Search Tips + Tools
Review the site list above and bookmark sites that relate to your career interests.
Sign up for newsletters or create job alerts on job search sites and/or through professional organizations.
Use the Job Search feature on LinkedIn to look for targeted jobs and discover if you have connections that can refer you.
Conduct Informational Interviews with individuals whose careers you admire, or who work in organizations you are interested in.
Attend industry events to grow your network and contact lists.
When you Apply:
Be sure you are tailoring your resume and cover letter to each job.
Omit irrelevant experience on your resume and make sure every line counts (i.e. no "filler lines" on your application materials)
Review job descriptions for broad categories of skills and competencies, not just specific responsibilities. For instance, if the job description lists responsibilities like "establishing partnerships with community organizations," "organizing networking events," and "maintaining a database of community partners," you can assume that Relationship-building is a key qualification of the position and speak to your experiences in this area.
